Why 2025 Has Been Dubbed The ‘Year of Surprises’ When It Comes to Weddings
By definition, a surprise is an astonishing or unexpected event, fact or thing that strikes someone with wonder, shock or amazement. So what does this have to do with wedding trends?
Here’s why — couples are choosing to include unexpected moments of delight into their ceremonies or receptions — not only does this excite your guests, but a novel event makes for a truly memorable evening.
From The Knot, here are just a couple of examples of wedding surprises which will leave your guests with a bewildered smile on their face.
“…the year of surprises can also include leaning into dramatic changes between the ceremony and reception, like cutting off the bottom of your dress or chopping off your locks. An enduring surprise for loved ones, serving a nostalgic late-night snack (think Taco Bell, McDonald's fries and Auntie Anne's pretzels), or a crowd-pleasing wedding food trend like mozzarella pulling, are all very much "in" for 2025.
Arguably, however, there is no greater surprise than throwing a surprise wedding. Under the guise of throwing an engagement party, couples then let their loved ones know upon arrival that they pushed the timeline up ever so slightly.”

Newlywed Times, Nuptial News — What in the World is a Wedding Newspaper?
Couples are creating! An artsy trend we’ve noticed picking up steam is a couple-crafted wedding newspaper. This tabloid includes info about the couple, their honeymoon destination’s history, some fun facts, what’s for dinner, interviews with the wedding party, etc.
A Few of our Favorite 2025 Wedding Trends
With wedding season in full swing (it started in September, fyi!) we wanted to share with our readers some of our favorite new wedding trends that we envision going strong into 2025.
Each wedding is truly so unique — (trust us, we’ve seen it all) the planning, the decor, the music, the food, the drink menu, each couple really brings their own personality to the table on their big day. From traditional weddings to nuptials on the courthouse steps, there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ for weddings.
It seems like modern couples of today intend to change the view on what a ‘wedding’ should be — read on to find out how!
Private Vow Readings
We love the idea of adding more meaning to a couple’s first look by reading vows in a private setting before the ceremony. If you’re not a big public speaker or you just want some much needed alone time with your S.O., this trend is for you! Plus, these private vow sharings make for some stunning, intimate photos.
Candid and Documentary Style Photos and Videography
Some of the best galleries recently include candid, real moments and docu-style photography that brings a true sense of nostalgia and romance to otherwise ‘staged’ photos. Elegant poses are always welcome, but something about the intimate nature of capturing a couple or their guests in their raw state just has us beaming. We adore how this photography style focuses on authenticity, and how cinematic these video shoots turn out!
Couples Getting Ready Together
This goes against all ‘traditional’ wedding prep — couples are choosing to spend their time getting ready alongside one another instead of with their wedding parties. While we respect the old superstition that seeing each other before the big day will bring bad luck to your relationship, we love the idea of taking in and overcoming those special (and sometimes stressful) moments together.
